Being fanatical about woodwork we wanted to really focus on the quality of the material and finish and so we opted to choose a timber that would complement its surroundings to offer that wow factor when guests visited the school.

Using a clear oiled America Maple worktop, we wanted to add a little character and so inserted capping and skirting detail as well as plain white Formica panels & fronts.

The solid maple was chosen due to the strength of the timber, while the finish [Matt Osmo] to future proof the reception desk for years to come.

We used a traditional joinery method – tongue and groove – to install a solid board top to ensure the longevity of a reception desk and to help it withstand the everyday impacts of a busy school. traditional joinery method - tongue and groove
