Link Primary School, a school specializing in the teaching and therapy of children with special speech, language and communication needs, was a project involving everything from kitchenettes, to seating, to storage, doors & frames.

Due to the nature of the school, the requirement was for the joinery to be warm and un-intrusive, but also hard wearing. To achieve this result FJL used simple finishes and materials such as birch ply and veneered MDF panels made up to represent birch ply.

To achieve this 15mm MDF was edged with birch ply and veneered with maple. This gave the impression of a birch ply panel but allowed FJL to make doors that exceeded 2.4m, closing off storage and achieving the long grain pattern the school wanted.

Attenuator units were also enclosed within the joinery behind bespoke made louvres [pictured above]. These louvres were made unique sizes, to correspond with the relevant air flow.
