The client

Kingsbridge Terrace is part of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham framework. Comprised of  27 two and three bedroom maisonettes and three bedroom houses available to buy through shared ownership. The development is aimed at creating affordable housing for people who are currently working or living in the borough of Barking & Dagenham.

After a competitive tender process the joinery were thrilled to win the work  to supply all 27 kitchens and 30 bathrooms for all four blocks.

Joinery services

Working in partnership with award winning, urban planning practice Allies and Morrison, we were tasked with procuring affordable but durable materials, that were both simple but stylish.

Using a cashmere paint on the kitchen doors to bring warmth to the apartments. We built the kitchens using MDF wood with a melamine back. Finishing with a PVC mixed matt and gloss paint with metallic  BA handles.

Wheelchair access kitchen

One of the apartments that we were working on was a wheelchair access kitchen.  This came fully loaded with an adjustable rise and fall sink and hob. We also equipped the property with a side opening oven, le mons corner storage unit, and an adjustable larder shelving unit.

Being one of the first wheelchair access kitchens that we had worked on we were determined to make sure that we had covered every eventuality to make the space as comfortable for the occupant as possible.

Our approach

Being a residential project, we knew that we would need to work as quickly as possible so as not to disrupt the family’s day-too-day home life.

From start to finish the duration of the project lasted eight weeks. Being a compact space we knew that we would need think about designing clever storage solutions. This would help keep clutter to a minimum and to help make the most of the space and create the illusion of a large bright space.
